DeLand, FL - An early first half goal was all Florida Atlantic University's women's soccer needed as the team defeated Stetson 1-0 Friday afternoon to improve to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in Atlantic Sun play. Christina Chang scored her fourth goal in five games as the Lady Owls have won five consecutive games via shutout.
Chang's sixth goal of the season turned out to be the game-winner at 10:34 of the first half, as she took a pass from Rhonda Jones to hit the back of the net in the top left corner from 20 yards out to help the Lady Owls remain atop the league standings. Chang has recorded four goals and 10 points in her last five games while Jones has recorded six points over that span.
FAU's Molly Keating made two saves, notching her fourth shutout of the season. Keating, who entered the game second in the A-Sun in goals-against average to Stetson's April Eilering, lowered her GAA to 0.50. The Lady Owls defensive unit of Danielle Castro, Krista Fine and Cristina Rodriguez allowed only five shots and held Carrie Lorenz and Jennifer Colley, fourth and eighth in the conference in points, to only one shot combined.
FAU improves its all-time record to 11-7 over Stetson (9-4-1, 3-2-1 A-Sun). The Lady Owls can tie the program record for consecutive games with a shutout (6) with a shutout against Jacksonville on Sunday. FAU has not lost in the month of October since October 22, 2000.
Florida Atlantic returns to action against Jacksonville on Sunday at 2 pm. The Lady Owls return home to play Colorado College Thursday, October 23, at 6 pm in the first game of a double-header with the men's soccer team. Individual ticket prices are $4 for adults and $2 for seniors/children. For more information call 866-FAU-OWLS.
