Nashville, TN - Florida Atlantic University's women's soccer team defeated Lipscomb University 3-0 Friday night, in the first meeting between the two teams. Janine Aylward recorded two assists and Rhonda Jones recorded a goal and an assist as the Lady Owls improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic Sun. FAU also improved to 17-9-2 in games after a loss.
Aylward recorded her sixth point in six games when she assisted on the Lady Owls first goal of the night. Jones headed in the corner kick by Aylward in the 21st minute of play to give FAU the lead. FAU would head into the half with a 1-0 lead over Lipscomb (1-9-0, 0-3-0).
The Lady Owls would extend their lead in the 59th minute when Aylward's blocked shot landed at the feet of Christina Chang. Chang settled the ball and shot it past the Bisons keeper for her third goal of the season and first goal since September 2, while Aylward recorded her team leading fifth assist on the goal. She has recorded seven points in her last six games.
The Lady Owls defensive unit of Lisa Rife, Cristina Rodriguez, Danielle Castro and Krista Fine limited the Bisons to three shots as FAU outshot Lipscomb 20-3. Molly Keating recorded two saves for her third shutout of the year.
FAU returns to action on Sunday, October 5 against Belmont University at 2 pm. The Lady Owls return home to play Mercer Friday, October 10, at 7 pm and Georgia State Sunday, October 12 at 2 pm.
