BOCA RATON, FL - Denise Brolly and Michele Fazzari each scored twice as the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team routed Belmont 8-0 in an Atlantic Sun Conference match-up on Thursday night.
Kari Fernandez opened the scoring for the Owls (5-3-2, 2-2) after 19 seconds, taking a pass from Susanna Lehtinen before finding the far bottom corner of the net. Christie Ashton made it 2-0 less than two minutes later after Bruins' (3-6-0, 1-2) freshman goalkeeper Micaela Crowley dropped a floated-in free kick by Janine Aylward.
Brolly's two second-half goals came either side of Fazzari's second, with freshman Caitlin Turpel grabbing her first career assist on Brolly's final goal. Brolly has now scored a goal in three consecutive games and leads the team with five goals and 14 total points. Brolly and Lehtinen both finished with two assists on the night.
Sophomore Megan Coyne and senior Christine Lilley combined for the shutout as FAU out-shot the Bruins 32-3. The Owls will next host conference foe Lipscomb on Saturday at 2 p.m. Individual ticket prices are $4 for adults and $2 for seniors/children. For ticket information, call 866-FAU-OWLS.
