BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team fell prey to a goal in the 13th minute and were unable to equalize on Friday night, falling in a Conference USA matchup to Middle Tennessee, 1-0, at FAU Soccer Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (4-5-0, 1-1-0 C-USA) got the game-winner at 13:51 in the first half, the sixth goal of the year from Peyton DePriest, and were able to turn away eight total shots on goal by the Owls (6-5-1, 1-2-0 C-USA) for the win.
The Owls pelted the net after the break, with seven of nine shots on target, but could not come up with the tying tally.
- Sammy Vitols drew the start at forward and paced FAU with four shots, all on goal
- Asta Arnadottir, Mary Hasler and Mary O'Hara each had two shot attempts
- Ebba Blomqvist, Madison Caldwell and Jennifer Ocampo played all 90 minutes
"I thought we (had an) unexpected slow start," said Head Coach Patrick Baker. "Full credit to them, they came out and they were stroking the ball around. We know that DePriest is very talented and she just got on the wrong side of us. It was a good buildup play by them, and you can't say we hadn't see it on video, but unfortunately, they made it materialize live."
FAU is right back at it on Sunday, hosting UAB. First kick from FAU Soccer Stadium comes at 1 p.m.
