BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Two goals by sophomore Asta Arnadottir propelled the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Miami in front of a crowd of 672 fans Friday night in Boca Raton.
"We worked exceptionally hard tonight," FAU Head Coach Patrick Baker said. "We put a lot of players on the field. To be 4-1 after five games, I'm just really proud of the girls and we have a lot of great soccer ahead of us."
The Owls (3-1) took an early lead as Arnadottir fired an unassisted goal over the head of the UM keeper in just the eighth minute to give FAU the advantage.
Arnadottir picked up her third goal of the season in the second half when the Owls overpowered the Hurricane defense. Claire Emslie and Geovana Alves picked up assists, feeding Arnadottir at the top of the box for another high goal.
Miami (0-4) would get on the board in the 86th minute, but the Owls held on for the victory, defeating the `Canes in back-to-back seasons.
FAU goalkeeper Sydney Drinkwater made four saves while the defense held Miami to just six shots, including one in the first half. The Owls took eight shots in the match, four of which came off the foot of Arnadottir.
FAU travels to take on Jacksonville on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
