TAMPA, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team went on the road to a tough, respected environment Friday night and walked away with a victory. Claire Emslie's goal in the 13th minute led the Owls to a 1-0 win at USF.

The Bulls (0-1) had not lost a home match in more than two years, compiling an undefeated home streak of 13 games dating back to Aug. 17, 2012.

FAU controlled the ball for much of the first half and drew a free kick from 40 yards out on the right side. Emslie booted it into the lower left corner of the goal for what proved to be the game-winner.

The Owls (1-0) started six newcomers, including goalkeeper Sydney Drinkwater who transferred from USF last season. The sophomore was perfect in goal, making eight saves in her FAU debut.

The Owls posted eight shots, including three each from Emslie and freshman Hildur Hauksdottir. Freshmen Asta Arnadottir and Alex Mastrobuono also took aim at the net.

FAU returns home to host Stetson in a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Aug. 24 at the FAU Soccer Stadium, Boca Raton campus. The first 100 students in attendance on Sunday will receive a free tank top shirt, free pizza and have a chance to win an iPod. Youth tickets cost just $1 with purchase of an adult ticket at regular price.
