GAINESVILLE, Fla. - (August 21, 2016) – The Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to no. 7 Florida on Sunday. The loss was the first time the Owls (1-1) have lost their road opener since 2013.
The Owls had an excellent chance to take an early lead, when Pernille Velta’s shot hit off the crossbar and was smothered by the UF keeper. Less than 10 minutes later, the Gators scored their first goal to take the lead.
- Sydney Drinkwater made two saves, while Jennifer Ocampo made four saves after coming in shortly before the half.
- Velta’s shot on goal was the only one of the match for FAU. Sammy Rowland tallied two shots.
- Sunday’s match is one of just two road matches in the first seven overall for the Owls. The rest will be played at home. FAU will travel to Miami on Sunday, Sept. 4.
Head Coach Patrick Baker:
"We played one of the best teams in the country today and took so many things away from the game. I thought we started sharply and freshman forward Pernille Velta almost scored the first goal of the game. Down a player for the last 45 minutes - I'm proud of how we fought, competed and showed character as a young team. We will improve from this weekend."
The Owls will return to Boca Raton to host Jacksonville on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. Live stats of the match will be available at fausports.com. For tickets, call the FAU Ticket Office at 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
