Women's Golf Signs Recruit from Thailand

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University head coach Joan Joyce has signed women’s golf’s first recruit for the 2014-15 season.

Nattiya Somboonsup will come to FAU all the way from Chonburi, Thailand. Her career has been highlighted by domestic and international achievements. She is a three-time representative of the Chonburi Province in both the Thailand National Youth Games and the Thailand National Games. She placed first in a number of domestic tournaments, including the 2012 TrueVision Singha Junior Golf Championship (73-73-69) and the 9th Mercedes Trophy Junior Championships Master Final in 2011 (73-73-72). Somboonsup has competed in China, Portugal and the United States, gaining irreplaceable experience from participating in international competition. She earned first place honors at the 2011 Oceanico World Kids Golf Tournament (76-68-72) and sixth place in the 2012 World Master Junior Golf Championships in Angelpark, Nevada (80-76-77).

Somboonsup is expected to join the Owls in the fall of 2014. Women’s golf will lose two seniors off of this year’s team.
