MIROMAR LAKES, Fla. – Women’s golf’s leading scorer Jacqueline Shelly shot four-under par on Tuesday to solidify Florida Atlantic University’s fourth place finish at Stetson University’s Hatter Classic on the par-72, 6,004-yard Victoria Hills Golf Club course.
The Owls fired the third lowest round of the tournament with a 29-over 317 in the final round to finish at 959 strokes total. Stetson captured team honors with a 45-over total of 909. Daytona State College finished second at 913 (+49) with Bethune-Cookman University in third at 951 (+87) while USC Upstate (+107, 971) rounded out the top five.
Shelly, a sophomore transfer from Mercer University, carded rounds of 77 and 79 tying for eighth on opening day before finishing with a four-over-par 76 in the final round and a total of 232 to tie for fifth individually. Christina Langer then shot five-over to finish with a 77. The sophomore improved her finish from a tie at 15th on Monday to 14th place with a total of 239.
Heather Netti, who was tied with Langer after the first two rounds, finished her first collegiate tournament in 17th place carding rounds of 84, 78 and 82 for a total of 244. Sophomore Emily Peters finished one stroke behind Netti for a total of 245, tying at 18th place. Peters shot 80 and 83 on Monday to tie for 19th before finishing with a 10-over 82. Amanda Ploener shot 84 in round three and was dropped from the Owls scorecard.
The Hatter Classic marks FAU’s best team finish this season and the completion of its fall tournament schedule.
