Howey-in-the-Hills, FL - Florida Atlantic University's women's golf team started the Hatter Fall Classic at El Campeon Golf Course in sixth place with a first round total of 323. Natalia Navarro is tied for third place individually after shooting an opening round 76 on the 6,015-yard par-72 course.
Navarro shot a tournament low 36 on the front nine before shooting a 40 on the back. Amanda Pettit and Jessica Carafiello both shot first round 81's to finish tied for 22nd, while Heidi von Korff and Kendall Kirby finished with rounds of 85 and 97.
The Owls trail the leader, Rollins College, by only 11 strokes. Florida Southern (318), the University of Miami (319), South Florida (321) and Mississippi (322) round out the top five. FAU is first among Atlantic Sun schools, ahead of Jacksonville (329), Georgia State (330), Jacksonville State (333), Troy State (340), Central Florida (342), Mercer (343) and host Stetson (353).
Florida Atlantic concludes the final two rounds on Monday.
