Jacksonville, AL - Florida Atlantic University's women's golf finished sixth in their first tournament of the fall season, the JSU Gamecocks Golf Classic at Silver Lakes Golf Course. Three Lady Owls finished in the top 14 with Natalia Navarro leading the way with a sixth place finish on the 5,935-yard par 72 course.
Navarro followed up Monday's 75 with a second round 78 to finish sixth individually, her fifth top-10 finish in her last six tournaments dating back to last year. Amanda Pettit shot a second round 79 to finish in a tie for 14th place. Maria Gutierrez improved eight strokes to shoot a second round 83 while freshman Sandi Macdougall finished her first collegiate tournament with a two round score of 171. Heidi von Korff finished with a 178. Jessica Carafiello, playing unattached, finished tied for seventh after shooting a second round 77.
FAU shot a two-round 651 in the 13-team tournament. Host Jacksonville State finished first with a two-round total of 608. Murray State (612), Birmingham Southern (621), Bethune-Cookman (644) and the University of New Orleans (644) round out the top five. Atlantic Sun opponents Mercer (658) and Samford (680) finished seventh and 10th respectively.
FAU returns to action on Sunday, October 19 in the Hatter Fall Classic at El Campeon Golf Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.
