ESTERO, FL - Just three strokes away from the top of the overall team leader board, The Florida Atlantic University women's golf team settled for a third-place finish Sunday at the Florida Gulf Coast University Fall Invitational at Miromar Lakes Golf Club.

Following an impressive second-place showing at the season-opening 2007 Colonial Women's Intercollegiate Tournament, the Owls again started strong with an opening round 296 - good for a nine-shot first day lead after Saturday's action.

Senior June Bolme posted a tournament-best round of 72 (E) on Day 1 to top the individual leader board heading into Sunday. Junior Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn followed closely behind with a 73 (+1), tied with two others - teammate Karine Bolme and eventual champion Heather Hagerman of host FGCU - for second on the day.

June Bolme and Phol-Uayporn each closed play a single stroke back of the individual lead, tying for the runner-up spot at 150 (+6). Karine Bolme placed 18th overall at 161 (+17), while Gina Larsen (163, +19) and Elisabetta Bertini (170, +26) rounded out the scoring for the Owls.

FAU shot 623 (+47) as a team, trailing team champion and host FGCU (620, +44) for the overall lead and finishing a single stroke behind second-place Bethune-Cookman (622, +46).

Florida Atlantic will next be in action the weekend of October 13 and 14 at the Xavier Invitational, held at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, FL.
