The Owls stand in second place and trail Houston Baptist for the tournament title by five strokes

The Florida Atlantic University women's golf team opened the spring season with a strong performance and stands in second place after Monday's opening round of the North/South Intercollegiate Invitational in Jacksonville Beach.

FAU shot a 313-stroke team score and trails Houston Baptist University by five strokes heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. The Owls are five shots ahead of third-place Bethune Cookman University.

Freshman Marilyne Cadieux shares first place among individual golfers after carding a five-over-par 76. Her round was helped by 37 score over the first nine holes, and extended a streak of 10 consecutive rounds with scores in the 70s to begin her collegiate career.

Sophomore Anna Wiklund and senior Jennifer Norton continued the Owls' consistent play with 80-stroke rounds to be tied for 10th place individually. Junior Elisabetta Bertini rounded out the team score with a 82 score.
