Miami, FL. - The Florida Atlantic University women's golf team opened its 2003 spring season in eighth place at the Golden Panthers Women's Championship in Miami, FL. The Lady Owls posted a round of 337 in the 15-school event with Anne Fraser leading the way with an 11-over par 82. The tournament is being held at the 6,003 yard, par 71 Doral Resort.
Fraser opened up the front nine with a score of 42 but finished strong on the back nine, shooting a team low 40 to finish the day in a tie for 19th. Right on her toes though is Heidi von Korff, who fired a 43 on the front and a 41 on the back to finish 13-over par and in a tie for 25th. Jessica Carafiello started hot on the day by shooting a 40 on the front nine but cooled off to finish with a 85 on the day. Natalia Navarro finished with an 86 while Amanda Pettit shot a 90.
The Lady Owls are only seven strokes behind Southwest Texas State University for second place with fellow Atlantic Sun member Georgia State only three strokes ahead. The University of Illinois is the leaders after the first day with a score of 309.
