Joan Joyce enters her 13th season as head women's golf coach at Florida Atlantic University after assuming the responsibility of the program in the spring of 1996. In 2005-2006, the team started its fall season by finishing in second place at the BCC Fall Invitational. In the spring, Joyce's squad came in second at the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate out of 14 teams. They would end the year by completing the Atlantic Sun Championship in third place. Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn had the distinct honor being both the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year and a member of the A-Sun First Team. Sophomore June Bolme earned First-Team honors as well in 2006. During the 2004-2005 campaign, the Owls finished tied for fifth in the Atlantic Sun Championship. June Bolme was named a member of both the All-Freshman and All-Conference team. From 1998-2004, Joyce saw her squad receive many individual and team honors. She coached three A-Sun Golfers of the Year in Cecilie Lundgreen (1997), Jessica Polus (2002) and Natalia Navarro (2004). In 2003, the team finished second at the A-Sun Championships, its best finish ever. The 1997 team finished second at the Rolex-sanctioned golf tournament, a 17-team field hosted by Florida Atlantic University. She worked with Cecilie Lundgreen her final two seasons of collegiate golf. Lundgreen reached the pinnacle of her career with a 96th individual national collegiate golf ranking. Lundgreen was also named the 1997 Florida Atlantic University Student Athlete of the Year (3.0+ gpa). Joyce began her tenure at FAU in 1994 when she took over as head softball coach. In that capacity, she developed one of the strongest programs in the country as well as the Atlantic Sun Conference, capturing nine of the 12 championships the team was eligible for and eight consecutive. A member of the National Amateur Softball Hall of Fame, Joyce holds a career pitching record of 753 wins and 42 losses. Included in her totals, Joyce pitched 150 no-hit, no-run games and 50 perfect games. Not only a pitcher, she boasts a career batting average of .324. Joyce counts striking out Ted Williams in 1961 as her most notable achievement. A multi-sport athlete, Joyce has also been inducted into Connecticut's Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, the Hank O'Donnell Hall of Fame, International Women's Sports Hall of Fame and was the runner-up for the 1976 Women's Sports Magazine Athlete of the Year. She is a familiar story to Fast-Pitch World and to most anyone who has followed the games of softball, basketball, volleyball or golf. Joyce remains an active member of the LPGA in addition to the countless athletic honors she has received. In addition, Joyce assumed FAU Senior Women's Administrator duties in January 1996.
