Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team looks for its first 4-0 record to start Sun Belt Conference (SBC) play when the Owls play at the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Saturday, December 27 at 3 p.m.
FAU stands 6-5 on the season after picking up an 81-80 win at Troy University on Friday, December 21. The team has also defeated the University of South Alabama and Arkansas State University for a 3-0 league record and a first-place tie in the SBC East Division. A 4-0 start to conference play would be the first since the 2002-03 season when the college was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Three Double-Figure Scorers Lift Women's Basketball to 3-0 Sun Belt Start with Home Win over ULM
The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team had three double-figure scorers and made 17 of its 20 free throws to defeat University of Louisiana-Monroe 65-58 on Wednesday night in the Sun Belt Conference home opener at the FAU Arena in Boca Raton.

A free throw by junior guard Latavia Dempsey with 1.2 seconds left gave the Owls the one-point win over Troy before the holiday break. She was one of four double-figure scorers in the game, highlighted by Breana Turner’s 25 points. Junior forward Chenise Miller scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while junior guard Takia Brooks had 10 points.
Florida Atlantic ranks second in the SBC in scoring by averaging 72.9 points per game. The team ranks seventh nationally in turnover margin (+9.0) and leads the league after committing 15.4 turnovers per game.
The Owls’ offensive attack features three players scoring 12 points a game. Miller leads the team at 13.8 points and seven rebounds per game. Turner follows closely behind at 13.5 points a game and has had two 25-point performances in the last three games. Brooks is averaging 11.9 points per contest, and leads the team with 32 assists and 35 steals.

FAU defeated ULM 66-59 last season in Boca Raton during the Owls’ 3-0 SBC start which helped pave the way for a second place SBC East Division finish and WNIT appearance.
