Boca Raton, Fla. - Basketball players have taken center stage for the second-straight week for the Florida Atlantic University's Student-Athlete of the Week Award. The honor goes to Kore White and Lyrell Barfield for their hardcourt performances last week.
White, a redshirt sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, played a key role in the Owls' victories at Mississippi State, of the Southeastern Conference, last Tuesday, and against USF, of the Big East Conference, last Saturday in Boca Raton. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 14.5 points and seven rebounds in the two games, improving his season averages to 10.9 points per game and a team-high 5.2 rebounds per contest. White also contributed to a team defensive performance that held USF to just 42 points.
Meanwhile, Barfield is being honored for the second-straight week after scoring a team-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting in FAU's only game of the week, a loss to USF in Tampa. The 5-foot-8 senior guard from Miami grabbed five rebounds and made a pair of three-point field goals. For the season, Barfield is the Owls' leading scorer (12.5 points per game), has 12 steals and has made 90 percent of her free throws.
