Opening Tip With Chancellor Dugan

BOCA RATON, FL -- Conference play will begin on Thursday for the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team as they host North Florida at 7 p.m. Thursday's tilt will be first time the Owls tip-off in FAU Arena since it closed on Oct. 24 due to damaged caused by Hurricane Wilma.

The Owls will be looking for their first win of the season against the Osprey. UNF is playing in their first year as part of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The Owls and Osprey have met just once before as FAU topped UNF 74-57 on Nov. 23, 1996.

Shontavia Williams was named to the Birmingham Sheraton Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team as she scored 14 points against both Samford and Birmingham-Southern. Williams also knotted her 1,000th career point against the Bulldogs and is currently seventh on the All-time scoring list at Florida Atlantic.

North Florida (1-2) is led by Jackie Beik as she connecting on over 35 % of her triple-tries and is averaging 12.5 points per game.

"I think the importance for us to have home court advantage is going to be huge. Everybody wants to go out there and perform at a high level in front of their home fans," head coach Chancellor Dugan said.

FAU will take on Jacksonville University on Saturday, Dec. 3, 7 p.m. in FAU Arena. The Owls have beaten the Dolphins in their last six meetings and hold a 10-2 series advantage over JU.

In the last meeting between the two foes Shontavia Williams dropped in 20 points to lead all scorers and Missy Glaser added 17 as FAU beat JU 89-77 on Feb. 5,2005.

Jacksonville (1-3) is led by Ashley Williams as she is averaging 16 points per game to go along with 8.3 rebounds. Shenna Carpenter is adding 13.5 points per game and is taking down 7.5 boards per game for the Dolphins.
