BOCA RATON, Fla. - Senior Sasha Cedeño has been named to the Conference USA Honor Roll for last week's performances, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
College Sports Madness named Cedeño C-USA Player of the Week in its weekly awards announcement.
The senior helped lead the Owls to a 2-1 record last week in contests against Indiana State and versus St. Francis Brooklyn and Bowling Green in the annual FAU Thanksgiving Tournament. In those three games, Cedeño averaged 24.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals.
Against Indiana State, Cedeño set new career highs with 26 points and 11 rebounds in the game. She followed that up on Friday resetting her personal best with 27 points and 11 rebounds against St. Francis Brooklyn. Her back-to-back double-doubles had not been done by an Owl since the 2015-16 season. Saturday against Bowling Green, Cedeño continued her impressive week with 19 points and seven rebounds.
In just one week, Cedeño moved up 20 spots in scoring average in Conference USA. She began the week tied for 22nd and ended in second place with a 19.8 points per game average for the season.
In both of the FAU's wins, the Owls used hot starts to claim early leads that were maintained throughout the game. In both cases, Cedeño was the spark. Against the Sycamores, Cedeño scored 14 points in the first quarter and the Owls led by 13 at the end of the period. The senior scored 12 of the Owls' first 13 points against the Terriers.
Rice's Erica Ogwumike was named Player of the Week for the league. Tamara Seda was also named to the C-USA Honor Roll.
