The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will open up the 2007-08 campaign this Friday as they head to Coral Gables, FL to face the Hurricanes of Miami.
The Owls are looking to improve on last year's 6-25 mark. And even though Miami poses a formidable challenge for FAU, head coach Chancellor Dugan is very pleased with what she's seen in practice.
"I don't know how we're going to stack up against Miami," said Dugan. "But I really like how my team is progressing."
FAU will be led by their one returning starter, guard Shuteamia Brayboy. She led the team in assists last season (5.1 per game), and led the Sun Belt conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.38-to-1).
Miami opens up their season on Friday after an 11-19 record in 2006-07. They're led by senior guard Maurita Reid, who averaged 14.6 points per game last season. Coach Dugan knows that the Hurricanes will try to push the tempo against her Owls.
"Miami is a very quick, athletic team," said Dugan. "They will try to run the ball more than we will."
Tip-off for Friday's game is at 12 p.m. The game can be heard on fausports.com. On Sunday, members of the FAU women's basketball team will be at the Publix on 1339 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, and 1968 NE 5th avenue, Boca Raton. The team will be bagging groceries and providing various FAU promotional items for customers between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
