BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University senior guard Lyrell Barifled has been named to the preseason Sun Belt Conference all-conference third team.
"We are really excited for Lyrell and it's a great honor to be mentioned in the top 15 of your league," said Chancellor Dugan, FAU women's basketball head coach. "We play in a very competitive league and Lyrell has worked very hard this offseason. We expect a great senior year."
Barfield led FAU in scoring last season putting in 12.3 points per game and knocked down a team-high 63 three-point field goals. The Miami native will be the only returning senior on the FAU roster.
The Owls lost eight seniors from last year's squad that won a program-high 10 Sun Belt Conference games.
The Sun Belt Conference also announced today that FAU will play two games on the Sun Belt Network in 2010-11.
The Owls will appear on the Sun Belt Network on Sunday, January 2 at 5 p.m. at Troy University in Troy, Alabama, and on Sunday, February 6 at home against in-state rival FIU with tip off scheduled for 3 p.m.
Last year FAU appeared in one game on the Sun Belt Network, the season finale at home against the eventual conference champion Middle Tennessee State University.
The Owls will open the 2010-11 season on Friday, November 12 at home against Webber International University.
