Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic University Head Women's Basketball Coach Kellie Lewis-Jay has announced her first recruit, junior college transfer Shanequa Schrouder of Daytona State College. She will be part of the Owls' roster for the 2012-13 season.

Schrouder, a 5-foot-11 guard from Apopka, was one of Florida's top junior college players during the past two winters. She earned first-team All-Mid Florida Conference honors after averaging 12.2 points and 5.5 rebounds this past season, and was a two-time selection to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region VIII team.

"We are very excited to have Shanequa as one of our new faces to the FAU women's basketball program," said Lewis-Jay. "Shanequa is versatile on both sides of the ball. She can get to the basket, can shoot and she has the ability to defend both the perimeter and the block. These are skills which will make her extremely valuable what we're going to do as a team. She should make an immediate impact for us."

The Owls are coming off a 17-13 season, a second-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division (12-4 record) and an appearance in the 2012 Women's National Invitational Tournament.
