Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball program has announced the signing of former Colorado high school player of the year Alison Gorrell to a national letter of intent to begin playing for the Owls during the 2014-15 season.
Gorrell, from Evergreen, Colo., was an all-state player in 2011 and two-time selection for "The Show" Colorado All-Star Game after being named the Max Preps Class 4A Player of the Year and Denver Post Class 4A Ms. Basketball Player of the Year in 2010. She led Conifer High School to final four state tournament appearances in the 2011 and 2010, and an 83-20 record during her four-year varsity career.
"I am thrilled to add Alison to our basketball program. She embodies every quality I look for in a student-athlete," said Kellie Lewis-Jay, FAU's head women's basketball coach. "Alison is a winner on and off the court and will bring excellence to our program."
Gorrell averaged more than 20 points per game during her last three high school seasons, when she was team captain. She averaged 26 points and six rebounds as a junior, and 25 points, six rebounds and five assists during her senior campaign.
"Alison is extremely versatile and she can play any of the guard spots for us. She still holds the steal record in Colorado, averaging over eight steals per game her senior season," said Lewis-Jay. "She will make a direct impact on our program as her leadership and experience will play a huge role in our program's future success."
FAU's women's basketball team is preparing to play its first season in Conference USA during the 2013-14 season.
