IRVING, Texas - Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced the 16 student-athletes that will receive the C-USA Winter Spirit of Service Award on Wednesday. The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing Conference USA's winter sports: men's and women's basketball, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field.

Senior Kimberly Smith shattered both Florida Atlantic and Conference USA records on the court and was named to the C-USA All-Academic team this season. Her 90 3-pointers broke the FAU single-season mark of 66 and her 197 career 3-pointers rank second all-time in school history. Smith made at least one 3-pointer in her final 31 games in an Owls uniform and her nine 3-pointers against Tulsa on Feb. 8 broke the FAU single-game record and tied the C-USA mark for most 3's in a game. She scored a career-high 33 points in the game and closed out her career in the top 10 at FAU in scoring (ninth with 957) and rebounding (ninth with 460). A member of the FAU Academic Honor Roll seven semesters in a row, Smith has volunteered at a number of organizations, including Advent Square Senior Community, Coconut Creek Red Center, Henderson Elementary and the AVDA 5 K Walk.
