Women's Basketball Opens C-USA Tournament Versus Marshall
Shaneese Bailey had 13 points and 15 rebounds at Marshall

EL PASO, Texas. – Just two weeks ago, the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team sat in 15th place in the Conference USA standings. On Tuesday, March 11, the Owls will open the C-USA Championship tournament as the No. 9 seed after winning their last three games in a row. FAU (16-13, 6-10 C-USA) will face off against the No. 16 seed Marshall (10-19, 3-13 C-USA) at 11 a.m. MT in El Paso, Texas.

Senior Kimberly Smith leads FAU into the tourney, averaging 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She was named second-team All-Conference USA for her efforts in her record-setting campaign. Smith shattered FAU and Conference USA records in 3-pointers made this year.

Smith led FAU with 26 points in its only prior meeting with Marshall in Huntington, W.V. on Feb. 16. The Owls took the 87-68 victory while Takia Brooks scored 23 points and Shaneese Bailey earned a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.

Marshall snapped a four-game losing streak with an 81-76 overtime win against UTSA on Wednesday, March 5. The Thundering Herd are led by Leah Scott’s 11.6 points per game and Suporia Dickens’ 7.1 boards per contest.
