BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University senior guard Kimberly Smith was named second team All-Conference USA as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors for her efforts in the 2013-14 regular season. Fellow senior Takia Brooks was named third-team All-Conference USA by College Sports Madness.
Smith, a native of Minneola, Fla., set the Conference USA record for most 3-pointers in a league play with 56, averaging a conference-high 3.6 treys per game. Her nine 3-pointers at Tulsa on Feb. 8 set a new school record and she broke FAU's single-season record with 86 3-pointers, shattering the old mark of 66. That night, she scored her career-high 33 points and helped FAU break the team single-season 3-point record.
She was named to the C-USA All-Academic team and ranks in the top ten all-time at FAU in points and rebounds.
Smith has back-to-back double-dobules against UAB and Tulsa, combining for 50 points and 20 rebounds in the two-game span. She leads FAU in scoring, steals and rebounds and has started in 56 consecutive games.
Brooks, a native of Miami, surpassed 900 career points on senior night against UTEP and ranks in the top nine in FAU history in assists and steals. The senior leads the Owls in assists and is second on the team in points per game. She reached double-digit scoring 16 times this season and her 377 career rebounds ranks second among active players.
The Owls (16-13, 6-10 C-USA) will open the 2014 Conference USA tournament on Tuesday against Marshall as the No. 9 seed.
