BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's women's basketball senior Brittany Bowe was named to the third team all-conference, released yesterday by the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). Bowe, who was a third team preseason selection to the all-conference team, leads FAU and is ranked second in the SBC with 4.8 assists per game.
"Brittany has really come into her own this season," said Chancellor Dugan, FAU women's head basketball coach. "She has done a great job in improving her game and I'm very happy for her in being named to the all-conference team."
The Ocala native is averaging a team-leading 12.5 points per game and 33.3 minutes per game heading into SBC tournament play this weekend. Brittany has been at the top of most statistical categories for FAU throughout most of the season, and is also near the top of the SBC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6), steals per game (1.7) and free-throw percentage (70.3 percent).
The point guard also has helped lead FAU to their most conference wins (10) since joining the SBC back in 2006.
"The entire senior class as a whole has come so far since their first year, which was also our first year in the Sun Belt Conference," Dugan said. "The progression from their first season to now has been outstanding."
Bowe will try to cap off her senior season this weekend at the SBC tournament, where the Owls (14-14, 10-8) will take on the University of New Orleans (10-19, 4-14) in the first round on Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m. (EST). FAU fell to the Privateers 67-61 in the first round at home last season.
The Owls will be looking for their first ever victory in the SBC tournament this Saturday and are 9-23 under Chancellor Dugan all-time in neutral site games.
"I'm very excited for the tournament and I know it's going to be a tough game against New Orleans," Dugan said. "They always give us problems but we are going to work hard this week and make sure we are ready to go for this weekend."
