Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team will begin its season series against South Florida rival FIU with a road game on Wednesday, February 6 at 6 p.m. in Miami. The Owls are seeking to snap a four-game losing streak and move into third place in the Sun Belt Conference’s (SBC) East Division.
Both teams stand 7-6 in league play. FAU is coming off a 70-67 home-court loss to Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday, February 2. Meanwhile, FIU suffered a 71-61 home loss to ULM on the same day.
The Owls look to get back to the .500 mark on the season, entering the game with a 10-11 record. They swept the Panthers in two meetings last season, by a total of three points: a 51-50 win in Miami before a 51-49 victory in Boca Raton.
Junior forward Chenise Miller leads Florida Atlantic in scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg), and tops the SBC with 42 blocked shots. She was a preseason all-league selection.
Senior guard Breana Turner is the team’s second leading scorer (12.1 ppg) and scored a career-high 32 points in the team’s 90-86 loss to ULM on Wednesday, January 30. The New Orleans native moved into 11th place on the program’s career scoring list (877 points).
Junior guard Takia Brooks gives FAU a third double-figure scorer (10.5 ppg) after having a 17-point performance against Middle Tennessee.
