Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team will begin its season series against South Florida rival FIU with a road game on Wednesday, February 6 at 6 p.m. in Miami. The Owls are seeking to snap a four-game losing streak and move into third place in the Sun Belt Conference’s (SBC) East Division.

Women's Basketball Wins 51-49 Home Thriller over FIU, Remains in Second Place
Scoring seven of the game's final 12 points, the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team swept the season series from South Florida rival FIU, 51-49, in a Sun Belt Conference East Division encounter on Saturday at the FAU Arena in Boca Raton.

Both teams stand 7-6 in league play. FAU is coming off a 70-67 home-court loss to Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday, February 2. Meanwhile, FIU suffered a 71-61 home loss to ULM on the same day.

The Owls look to get back to the .500 mark on the season, entering the game with a 10-11 record. They swept the Panthers in two meetings last season, by a total of three points: a 51-50 win in Miami before a 51-49 victory in Boca Raton.

Junior forward Chenise Miller leads Florida Atlantic in scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg), and tops the SBC with 42 blocked shots. She was a preseason all-league selection.

Senior guard Breana Turner is the team’s second leading scorer (12.1 ppg) and scored a career-high 32 points in the team’s 90-86 loss to ULM on Wednesday, January 30. The New Orleans native moved into 11th place on the program’s career scoring list (877 points).

Junior guard Takia Brooks gives FAU a third double-figure scorer (10.5 ppg) after having a 17-point performance against Middle Tennessee.


 

 

FIU, 13-9 on the season, is led by the nation’s leading scorer, junior guard Jerica Coley, who is averaging 25.1 points per game. The preseason SBC Player of the Year is also averaging seven rebounds per game. Junior center Marita Davydova is scoring 10.1 points per game and is the team’s leading rebounder (8 rpg).

FAU will end the regular season with the rematch against FIU on March 2 in Boca Raton.
