Boca Raton, FL - Opportunity is knocking for the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team, which hosts Sun Belt Conference (SBC) leading Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday, February 2 at 3 p.m. from the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road on the Boca Raton campus.
The Owls stand 10-10 on the season and 7-5 in league action after suffering three straight losses. The latest setback, 90-86 to the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Wednesday, January 30, broke the team’s 11-game home conference winning streak.
FAU ranks second in the SBC in scoring (71.5 ppg) and the 86 points against ULM was a season high in conference play. The team has scored 73 or more points in 11 games this season.
Junior forward Chenise Miller, a preseason all-league selection, leads Florida Atlantic in scoring at 13.9 points per game. She ranks fourth in the SBC with 7.8 rebounds per contest. Miller had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the first meeting at Middle Tennessee on January 9.
Meanwhile, senior guard Breana Turner is coming off a career-high 32 points in Wednesday night’s loss after making 11 of her 19 field goals and 10 of 11 free throws. She moved into 11th place in the Owls’ career scoring record book with 872 points. Turner is averaging 12.5 points per outing and junior guard Takia Brooks is scoring 10.5 points a game this season.
Middle Tennessee has won 10 straight games and is receiving votes in this week’s USA Today NCAA Division I Coaches poll with a 16-5 overall record. The Blue Raiders are coming off a 61-51 win at FIU on Thursday, January 31, to improve to 11-1 in SBC play. Team leaders include junior Ebony Rowe (21.3 ppg/11.2 rpg), senior Icelyn Elie (14.4 ppg) and senior Kortni Jones (14.1 ppg).
