BOCA RATON, Fla. – Ra’Kyra Gabriel of the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team has been named to the Conference USA Honor Roll for her performances last week.
At UTSA, Gabriel delivered on her birthday scoring a career-high 27 points along with nine rebounds, three blocks, one steal and one assist. Her offensive outburst helped fuel the Owls’ 99-point performance, the most points scored by a FAU team in conference play since 1999.
Gabriel kept the offensive juices flowing on Saturday at UAB where she scored 24 points along with seven rebounds, one block, one assist and one steal. She scored 20-plus points in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.
Overall, Gabriel averaged 25.5 points per game, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals during the week. She also shot 75 percent from beyond the arc through two games, making 6-of-8 on the week, including going 4-of-5 in Birmingham.
The Stockton, California native’s improved shooting has shown in her most recent games with the Owls. In the last four games Gabriel has made nine three-point field goals after making only four in her career previously.
Gabriel and the Owls will be back in action on Saturday at WKU. The Lady Toppers are the defending Conference USA champions and current first-place team in the league. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (EST). FAU will return home the following week when they host Middle Tennessee (Feb. 8) and North Texas (Feb. 10). Both games will begin at 7 p.m.
