Boca Raton, FL -The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team looks for another season sweep when it hosts the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Wednesday, January 30 at 7 p.m. at the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road on the Boca Raton campus. The Owls have won 11 consecutive home conference games.
The program will recognize A.D. Henderson Elementary students at halftime for achieving the AR Reading Goal. FAU players volunteered time at the school during the fall semester.
Head Coach Kellie Lewis-Jay’s team seeks to snap a two-game losing skid and stay above the .500 mark, bringing in a 10-9 record into the game. The team is 7-4 in Sun Belt Conference (SBC) action after losing 74-56 loss at West Division leader Arkansas State University on Saturday, January 26.
The Owls were victorious at ULM 82-72 on December 29 behind junior guard Latavia Dempsey’s 18 points. Sixteen of those points came in the second half. Junior forward Chenise Miller had 22 points in the first meeting.
Overall, Miller leads the team in scoring at 14.3 points a game and ranks fourth in the SBC with 7.8 rebounds per game. She has scored in double figures in 10 of the past 11 games.
Dempsey stands fifth in the conference by making 38 percent of her three-point field goal attempts. Her 1.6 three pointers made per game is sixth best in the SBC. On the season, Dempsey is averaging 9.2 points per contest.
Senior guard Breana Turner stands second on the team with 11.4 points a game. Junior guard Takia Brooks rounds out the balanced scoring attack at 10.4 points per outing. FAU’s offense ranks second in the SBC by scoring 70.7 points a game.
ULM scored a season-high 79 points in a five-point home win over Troy University on January 26. The win improved the Warhawks to 4-15 on the season and 2-7 in league play. Ashleigh Simmons leads the team with 10.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Jasmine Shaw is scoring 10.3 points per outing.
