Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team hopes to continue its winning ways with Sun Belt Conference West Division games at UALR on Wednesday, January 23 in Little Rock, Arkansas and at Arkansas State University on Saturday, January 26 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The game at Arkansas State will be televised on the SBC Network.

Women's Basketball Falls To UALR in SBC Semifinals
The record-setting season for the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team came to an end with a 59-42 loss to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock in Monday's semifinal round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The Owls, 10-7 overall and 7-2 in the SBC, are coming off two home victories last week. They defeated the University of North Texas, 76-67, last Saturday, January 19 before sweeping the season series against Troy University with a 74-63 victory on Wednesday, January 16.

FAU ranks 20th nationally among NCAA Division I teams in scoring, averaging 73.1 points per game; is ninth in the nation in turnover margin (+7.0); and tops the SBC with 12.6 steals per game.

Individually, junior forward Chenise Miller had her fifth double-double of the season against North Texas, with 22 points and 14 rebounds. She leads the team in scoring (14.8 ppg), leads the league with 39 blocks and is tied for fourth in the league in rebounding (7.8 rpg).

Senior guard Breana Turner is averaging 12.7 points per contest and junior guard Takia Brooks (10.9 ppg) rounds out the team’s double-figure scorers. Brooks ranks fifth in the SBC with 41 steals.

Junior guard Kimberly Smith had a strong all-around game against North Texas with 10 rebounds, nine points, six assists and four steals in the victory. Junior guard Latavia Dempsey ranks third in the league, making 41 percent of her three-point field goal attempts.



The Owls are seeking their first victory over UALR, losing the previous seven meetings between the two league opponents. The Trojans, 11-7 on the season and 4-6 in SBC play, have lost their last four games, including a 70-61 setback at Western Kentucky University on January 19. Sophomore Taylor Gault leads the team by scoring 16.1 points per game, while senior Janette Merriex is another scoring threat (9.7 ppg) and junior Hannah Fohne is the top rebounder (6.8 rpg).

FAU is seeking to sweep the season series with Arkansas State after winning the first meeting, 79-71, on December 1 in Boca Raton.
