BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team returns home to the warmth of South Florida to host Conference USA action in the coming week. The Owls (10-4) host Rice on Saturday, Jan. 11 with a scheduled start of 5 p.m. before in-state rival FIU invades the Burrow on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.
Rice (8-6, 1-0 C-USA) is coming off of a 59-41 victory at FIU on Wednesday for its third consecutive wins. The Rice Owls average just 64 points per game, but snag 43.2 rebounds on average.
Senior Jessica Kuster leads the Rice squad with 19.9 points and 13.9 rebounds per game. The 6-2 Texas native has also recorded a team-high 17 blocks and has earned five straight double-doubles.
FIU enters the weekend with a record of 6-8 and lost their conference opener to Rice on Wednesday. The Panthers average 67.9 points/contest and are rebounding at a clip of 42.1 per game. Senior Jerica Coley averages a conference-high 27.8 points per game and leads the team in assists (64), steals (21), blocks (12) and minutes (37.8). FIU will host East Carolina on Saturday.
FAU is coming off of a 61-58 loss at ECU, the top team in the conference, on Wednesday. The Owls posted their lowest-scoring outing of the season without the aid of leading-scorer Chenise Miller, but still nearly ended a 21-game home winning streak for the Pirates.
FAU averages 78.7 points and has a league-high turnover margin of +9.6. The Owls have forced a whopping 337 turnovers while giving up possession just 202 times this year.
Following the home stand, FAU returns to the road to face Old Dominion and Louisiana Tech on Jan. 18 and Jan. 22, respectively.
