Jan. 7, 2014

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will make its Conference USA debut on a hot streak when the Owls face East Carolina on Wednesday in Greenville, N.C. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Williams Arena.

FAU (10-3) has won 10 of its last 11 games and is off to its best start since the 1990-91 season. The Owls are lighting up scoreboards, posting an average of more than 80 points per game, led by senior Chenise Miller's 13.4 average. Latavia Dempsey and Takia Brooks also average double-digits, scoring 12.1 and 11.5 points per game, respectively.

East Carolina enters the contest as the best team in C-USA with a record of 12-1. The Pirates' lone loss came on Dec. 14 against Grand Canyon 86-76. Just five of ECU's 12 victories have been by more than 12-point margins. ECU averages 76 points per contest, led by Jada Payne's 22.2 scoring average.

The Pirates own a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series against FAU, and both meetings have taken place on neutral courts. ECU has won 20 games in a row at home and has not fallen on its own court since Nov. 17, 2012.

The Owls will return home to host Rice and FIU on Jan. 11 and 15, respectively.
