BOCA RATON, FL - Tamica Pierce and LaKeita Lee each scored 22 points to lead Florida Atlantic University to a 101-87 victory over South Florida Friday night in Boca Raton, FL. FAU's Kristy Halvorsen added 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to help the Lady Owls improve to 3-6 on the year.

In all, five Lady Owls finished in double figures with three posting double-doubles. Pierce finished with 10 rebounds while Lee had 11. Crystal Boyland added 12 points with Janka Deckerova tossing in 11. FAU managed to outshoot USF 51 percent to 36 percent while owning a 63-48 advantage on the boards. Florida Atlantic held South Florida (9-3) to just 5-of-28 (18 percent) from beyond the arc.

FAU opened the game with a 15-8 lead with 15:17 left in the first half before USF went on a 14-6 run to take a 22-21 lead with 11:28 left. That's the only lead the Bulls would have as the Lady Owls went on a 12-0 run on their way to a 56-42 halftime advantage.

Florida Atlantic built as much as a 20 point lead with14:05 left in the game before USF made one last comeback attempt. The Bulls would pull to within 82-76 with 8:10 remaining and get as close as five points with 1:47 left before the Lady Owls put the game away with free throws. The Lady Owls scored 12 of their last 14 points from the line.

"Our girls held their composure down the stretch," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "I was proud of the way they came out tonight, and we made some important free throws down the stretch."

"You look at the scoresheet, but it doesn't include FAU's effort and intensity and how hard they played," said USF head coach Jose Fernandez. "That was the difference."
