LUBBOCK, Texas - After having its seven-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, the Florida Atlantic Women's Basketball team came back to defeat Jacksonville 71-62 on Sunday in the World Vision Challenge in Lubbock, Texas.
The Owls (8-3) forced 31 turnovers en route to their eighth win in the last nine games and are off to their best start since the 1990-91 season and their best start since joining Division I.
For the sixth time this season, senior Chenise Miller led FAU in scoring with 16 points. The Michigan native also posted five rebounds and two steals.
Shanequa Schrouder tied her career high with 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
FAU held a four-point lead at the 11:10 mark of the first half before Jacksonville (3-8) utilized a 9-0 run to go up by five just two minutes later. Schrouder would hit a three-pointer with 20 seconds left in the first half to tie the game for the eighth time, at 29-29.
The second half belonged to the Owls as Brooks hit a jumper to give FAU the final lead of the game just 19 seconds into the half. She and Schrouder each scored nine points in the second half. They combined to score 11 of FAU's final 13 points to seal the victory for the Owls.
FAU finished the tournament 2-1 and will stay on the road to face UNC-Wilmington on Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.
