LUBBOCK, Texas - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Texas Tech on Saturday as the Owls fell to the Lady Raiders 76-63 at the World Vision Challenge.
FAU (7-3) jumped out to a lead and held an eight-point advantage early in the first half, but could not hang on despite forcing 25 TTU turnovers. The Lady Raiders (6-4) shot 46% from the field and posted 40 points in the paint.
Tech led 40-28 at the half and opened the second half on an 11-2 run to take a game-high 21 point lead. The Owls would pull within seven with 4:35 to play, but were unable to overcome the deficit. The loss ended a winning streak that dated back to Nov. 16.
The Owls were led by Latavia Dempsey's 16 points and four assists. Kimberly Smith scored 13 second-half points after getting in foul trouble early in the contest. Ashley Stevenson set career highs in points and rebounds with 11 points and nine boards in her 17 minutes on the court.
FAU will face Jacksonville on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET to wrap up the tournament. The Owls will next see action on Dec. 29 at UNC-Wilmington at 2 p.m.
