Lubbock, Texas - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games on Friday with a 67-63 victory over Abilene Christian in the World Vision Challenge in Lubbock, Texas.
Seniors led the Owls (7-2), combining for 58 of FAU's points. Chenise Miller scored 16 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Shanequa Schrouder flirted with a double-double with her 11 points and nine rebounds.
FAU pieced together a 10-0 run midway through the first half to jump out to the largest lead of the game at 22-11. ACU (7-5) would chip away at that lead to tie the game with 34 seconds remaining in the half before Takia Brooks made free throws to put the Owls on top 37-35 at the break.
After the Wildcats tied the game again early in the second half, Kimberly Smith buried three consecutive three-pointers and Schrouder made free throws to give FAU a 50-39 advantage with 15 minutes to play.
ACU erased that lead with a 10-0 run of its own and would tie the game with three minutes left.
With the Wildcats leading by two with 38 seconds left, Miller made a layup to knot the game up for the seventh time.
Schrouder and Brooks each made a pair of free throws to seal the game at 67-63 for the Owls. Six of FAU's final 11 points came from the free throw line, where the Owls shot 19-26 for the game.
FAU returns to the court on Saturday to face host Texas Tech (5-4) at 3 p.m. ET. The Owls will wrap up the tournament with a 1 p.m. ET game on Sunday against Jacksonville.
