LINCOLN, Neb. – The Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team fell, 86-69, on the road to Nebraska on Tuesday night. In a game that featured 10 lead changes and four ties, the Owls were in it until the end, but the Cornhuskers caught fire late in the game.
FAU (4-5) and Nebraska (9-3) both had low scoring first quarters, but the Owls took a 15-13 lead on a Danneal Ford buzzer-beating three. The Huskers held a 37-31 lead at halftime.
The Owls came out of halftime and jumped on a 7-0 run to take retake the lead. For the rest of the quarter, no team would lead by more than five points.
With 9:39 left in the game, FAU had a 55-52 lead after a four-point play from Sasha Cedeño after she was fouled on a three-point shot. Nebraska clinched their win outscoring the Owls 15-2 in 3:29 of action (5:35-2:06). The Huskers shot 85.7% from the field in the final quarter, missing only two total shots and outscored the Owls 34-18 total in the last frame.
Sasha Cedeño finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and two steals. The senior has scored 20-or-more points in five of seven games. Cedeño is now averaging 20.6 points per game this season.
FAU was 20-26 from the free throw line for a percentage mark of 76.9.
The Owls will return home for the FAU Holiday Classic on December 29 and 30. FAU will take on Delaware State and then will face either Stetson or UMKC depending on Friday’s results. The tournament will wrap up the Owls’ nonconference schedule.
