BOCA RATON, FL --Florida Atlantic University suffered a 91-64 defeat at the hands of Florida International University Tuesday in Boca Raton, FL. Chantale Jones led FAU (2-6) with 12 points while LaKeita Lee added 10 off the bench.

FIU (7-2) seemed poised to run away with the game at the outset by taking an early 17-2 lead. However, the faster Lady Owls forced the Golden Panthers into 14 first half turnovers and were able to close the gap to 46-35 at the half. FAU scored 12 of those 35 first half points directly off of turnovers.

"I thought we played pretty well in the first half," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "Unfortunately, we weren't able to capitalize in the second half."

FAU opened the second half by closing the gap to eight points before FIU took control of the game the rest of the way.

FIU outshot FAU 55 percent to 36 percent while controlling the boards 58-27. FAU ended up forcing 26 turnovers while committing just 14. Kristy Halvorsen led the Lady Owls with six rebounds. Jones added five assists and four steals.

FIU, which is receiving votes in both major national polls, saw every starter score at least 10 points as Gergana Slavtcheva led all scorers with 22 points. Anita Heller had 20 while Dace Cinite had 14. Cheryl Moody finished with 12, and Cormisha Cotton had 10 points and 14 rebounds.

FAU played without Janka Deckerova, its leading three-point shooter and fourth leading scorer. The sophomore is out after having dental surgery. The Lady Owls are still without freshman Angie Rodgers who played in part of the team's season opener before suffering a stress fracture in her left leg.
