CORAL GABLES, FL -- Janka Deckerova scored a season-high 18 points but it wasn't enough as Florida Atlantic University (0-7) was defeated by the University of Miami, 86-61, Monday night in Coral Gables, FL. Both teams struggled to hang on to the ball as they combined for 72 turnovers on the night. The difference was Miami's 48.1 percent field goal shooting compared to FAU's 30.4 percent.

With Miami (4-3) leading 10-9 with 15:17 left in the first half, the Hurricanes went on a 12-0 run to take a 22-9 lead 4:34 later. UM would go on to lead 46-25 at the half. In the second half, Miami continued to add to its lead and held a 57-32 advantage with 16:07 left before FAU made a run. A pair of jumpers by Crystal Boyland and Tamica Pierce was followed by a three-pointer by Deckeverova, one of four on the night, to give FAU a 9-0 run and draw within 57-39 with 13:19 to play. However, Miami would go on a 9-0 run and, in all, a 26-5 run to put the game away.

The Hurricanes led by as many as 36 points with 2:27 left in the game before FAU closed on an 11-0 run. The Lady owls led just once at 8-7 with 16:20 left in the first half.

FAU turned the ball over 37 times, but Miami wasn't much better with 35 miscues. Florida Atlantic shot 6-for-19 from beyond the arc while UM went 5-for-11. UM held a 52-42 advantage on the boards.

Pierce finished with 13 points to go along with three blocks and four steals. Shontavia Williams and Crystal Boyland each had eight. Jennifer Olson led FAU with eight rebounds.

Tamara James led all scorers with 25 points while Shaquana Wilkins had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Meghan Saake also helped the UM effort with 13 points.
