TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State University remained undefeated after a 65-40 victory over visiting Florida Atlantic University Wednesday night in Tallahassee, FL. FSU outscored FAU 36-18 in the second half as it improved to 7-0 on the year. Jackie Brown led FAU with 12 points as the Lady Owls dropped to 1-7. FSU's Roneeka Hodges led all scorers with 16 points. Ganiyat Adeduntan posted 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Both teams struggled from the field at the start of the game. After FAU took a 10-9 lead at the 10:04 mark on a Brown three-pointer. FSU rolled off 12 straight points and led 21-10. After a timeout by FAU, the Lady Owls put together a 9-0 run and trailed 21-19 with 3:41 remaining in the half. FSU went to the locker room with a 29-22 advantage.
The second half was all FSU, forcing FAU into 17 of its 29 turnovers. The Seminoles also shot 50 percent from the field in the second half, finishing the game at 48 percent. FSU held FAU to just 27 percent shooting.
FAU did forced Florida State into a season-high 29 turnovers, but the Seminoles controlled the boards, 41-27.
"We just shot ourselves in the foot," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan, alluding to the turnovers. "If we're forcing someone into 27 turnovers, we've got to be able to turn those into some easy baskets at the other end."
Florida Atlantic will now have 15 days before its next game, December 30, against Bethune-Cookman.
