MIAMI, FL - Florida Atlantic University suffered an 82-55 loss to Florida International University Saturday night in non-conference action at Pharmed Arena in Miami. Milena Tomova led four Golden Panthers in double-figures with 21 points while Shontavia Williams led FAU (1-6) with 14 points.
Tomova scored FIU's first seven points as the Golden Panthers led 7-0 two minutes into the contest. FAU came back with a 7-2 run and trailed 9-7 at the 14:58 mark, but that's as close as they would get. FIU (5-2) went on a 13-2 run and eventually took a 39-25 halftime lead.
The second half started out much the same way as the first with FIU putting together an 11-2 run and leading 50-27 with 16:17 to play. FAU trailed by at least 20 points the rest of the way.
FIU shot 31-for-64 from the field for 48 percent on the day. FAU managed just 17-for-53 for 32 percent. FIU held a 49-30 advantage on the boards, helped in large part by 16 points and 16 rebounds by Lasma Jekabsone. Faeza Bouderra tossed in 15 while LaQuetta Ferguson scored all 12 of her points in the second half.
Florida Atlantic next faces Florida State Wednesday in Tallahassee.
