Breana Cox had 16 points to lead the Florida Atlantic Women's basketball team to a 74-58 win over the Columbia Lions on Saturday during the FAU Holiday Classic at the FAU Arena.
FAU controlled things throughout, as Carla Stubbs scored the teams first nine points of the nine of the Owls first 11 points to put FAU up 11-2 early. They would never trail in the game as FAU shot 46 percent from the floor and knocked down seven of 16 shots from beyond the arc.
"I thought it was a very balanced effort all the way around," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "Our inside and our outside game really played well and we were able to get the shots we want."
The Owls had four players in double digits, led by Cox's 16 point effort off the bench. Stubbs finished with 14 points and four rebounds. Jaimie Givens had another double-digit scoring effort, scoring 12 and Adel Lizama added 11 points on three of four shooting beyond the arc. Shuteamia Brayboy had another solid game passing the ball, she had 10 assists to add to her league lead in assists per game. The Owls also forced Columbia to commit 23 turnovers, mostly from full court pressure.
Chelsea Frazier and Danielle Browne led the way for the Lions with 12 points. Browne was a perfect six for six from the floor. They were the lone bright spots as FAU forced Columbia to only shoot 39 percent from the field.
The Owls improve to 2-4 overall and face St. Bonaventure on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the FAU Holiday Classic. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the FAU ticket office in front of FAU Arena or by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
