BOCA RATON, Fla. – After falling behind in the first half to Bowling Green, the Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team stormed back in the third quarter to take the lead but ultimately fell to the Falcons, 66-55.
After going back-and-forth for much of the first quarter, Bowling Green had built a four-point lead by the end the period.
The Falcons had their largest lead of the game in the second quarter when they went up 14 points with 1:25 left in the half, but Malia Kency brought it back to 11 with a layup and a foul shot.
The Owls were behind by 12 points when Raven Doyle scored six straight points to cut the Falcons’ lead in half. Sasha Cedeño then scored eight straight points at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter to tie the game.
Bowling Green regained a three-point advantage, but back-to-back layups from Ra’Kyra Gabriel gave the Owls their first lead since the beginning of the game. With 7:25 left in the game, Bowling Green went on an 11-0 run that would put the Falcons ahead for good.
Sasha Cedeño led all scorers with 19 points in the contest. She also had seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. That capped off an impressive week for the senior who averaged 24.0 points and 9.7 rebounds for the week. Her performance in the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament earned her All-Tournament honors.
Malia Kency had nine points and five assists in the game. The senior also earned All-Tournament recognition after having a Conference USA season-high 11 assists in the Owls’ win against St. Francis on Friday.
The Owls remain at home for the next two games. Grand Canyon will come to town on Friday, December 1 at 7 p.m. Then FAU will take on North Florida on Sunday, December 3 at 2 p.m.
