HUNTINGTON, WV -- American University used a 22-0 second half run to defeat Florida Atlantic University, 92-69, Saturday night in Huntington, WV. The teams were playing in the consolation game of the Marshall University Classic. Janka Deckerova led FAU with 15 points as the Lady Owls dropped to 0-2 on the year.
FAU trailed 43-42 at the half but opened the second half on a 4-0 run and led 46-43 with 17:25 remaining. That's when American exploded for 22 unanswered points over the next 4:43 to take a 65-46 lead with 12:42 left in the game. FAU would get as close as 11 points before falling by 23.
"It's a disappointing loss," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "I thought we played well in spurts. We played a lot harder than (Friday), but we're still not all on the same page."
FAU committed 32 turnovers while shooting 40 percent from the field. American committed 23 turnovers and shot 48 percent from the game. The Lady Eagles shot 59 percent in the second half.
FAU's largest lead was seven, when the Lady Owls went on an 11-0 run in the first half to take a 17-10 lead. However, American responded with a 9-0 lead as they eventually led by one at the half.
Florida Atlantic next plays at no. Louisiana State University Monday at 8:00pm EDT.
