BOCA RATON, FL --Florida Atlantic University fell to Georgia Tech, 73-62, in its season opener Friday night in Boca Raton. Trineca McCleod led FAU with 16 points, and DeeAnna Hanscom tossed in 13 in the Lady Owls' effort. Georgia Tech's Fallon Stokes led all scorers with 25 points and 14 rebounds.

FAU (0-1) was held to just 31 percent shooting while the Yellow Jackets shot 46 percent from the field. Georgia Tech (1-0) also held a 49-39 rebounding edge.

The Lady Owls opened up with a brief 4-2 lead before the Yellow Jackets ran off 12 straight points for a 14-4 lead. After FAU cut it to a five-point lead, Georgia Tech stormed back to lead 28-14 with 5:47 left in the first half. They would end up leading 42-21 at the break.

The Yellow Jackets would build as much as a 24-point lead in the second half and led 73-51 with 1:36 left before FAU closed the game with 11 straight points.

Ten different Lady Owls scored with McCleod and Hanscom the only two in double-figures. Jackie Brown, Sharia Young, and Missy Glaser each had six while three others had four.

Florida Atlantic next faces Norfolk State November 28 in the first round of the FAU/Embassy Suites Classic in Boca Raton.
