AKRON, Ohio - One of the best free-throw shooting teams in the nation proved its prominence on Friday as the University of Akron defeated the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team 98-69. The Zips took 39 free throw attempts and capitalized on 29 of those to defeat FAU in its first game of the 2013-14 season.
The game saw three Akron players record double-doubles with Rachel Tecca scoring 36 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Hanna Luburgh scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds while Carly Young tacked on 11 points and 11 boards.
The Owls were led by freshman Katherine Wright, who scored 14 points, including four three-pointers. Seniors Takia Brooks and Chenise Miller scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, before fouling out of the contest.
FAU took a lead early and led by six at the first media timeout, but Akron finished the contest on a 20-7 run on its home court. The Owls were called for 17 fouls in the first half, which Akron converted into 17 points from the charity stripe to lead by 12 at halftime.

The Owls remain on the road to face Ohio State on Nov. 10 in Columbus. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
