BOCA RATON, FL - Senior night was a successful one as Florida Atlantic University concluded its regular season with a 78-66 victory over Jacksonville University Saturday night in Boca Raton, FL. Shontavia Williams led all scorers with 17 points as FAU improved to 12-15 overall and posted an 11-9 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference. FAU will be the no. 6 seed in next week's A-Sun Tournament. JU completed its season 3-24 and 1-19 in the A-Sun.
It was a battle for the Lady Owls in the first half as FAU posted a 40-39 lead at the break. In the second half, FAU pulled away as it steadily increased its lead to as many as 15 points with 3:21 left.
JU's Yolisha Jackson opened the second half with a three-pointer to give the Dolphins a 42-40 lead. That would be the last lead of the night for JU as FAU went on a 9-2 run to lead 53-44 with 13:30 remaining in the game. The run included five points from Cristal Randolph, who finished with eight points.
FAU took a 59-49 lead with 8:27 left on a lay-up by Sally N'Diaye, who finished with a career-high nine points. JU pulled to within 66-59 with 5:19 remaining before the Lady owls pulled away with an 8-0 run. Deckerova hit a three-pointer with 4:21 left to make it 70-59. The seniors continued the run as McCleod made two free throws at the 3:26 mark to make it 72-59. Evans picked up a steal, and Hanscom finished the run with a lay-up with 3:21 to go.
FAU outshot JU 44 percent to 37 percent. The Lady Owls had a 46-36 edge on the boards. The Lady Owls closed the season with wins in six of their last seven games and, over a longer stretch, have gone 10-4 since late January.
