The Owls had the final possession and points of the game as Shannon’s last-second layup was good but just a little late as FAU fell by three.

The Owls held UAB scoreless for the next 2:21 until Deanna Kuzmanic saw her first make of the game. UAB and FAU then went tit-for-tat both nailing their last three baskets as UAB remained on top by three with four to play. O’Reilly gave the Owls their first lead of the game from the line and hit the team’s next two shots to put them ahead with 39 seconds left. UAB’s Whytney Singleton tied things up again, but Shannon stole a last-second buzzer beater to put FAU ahead 41-38.
Julia Jenike joined the 3-point club with the team’s first make of the third quarter to put FAU up by four. Not wanting to be left out, O’Reilly hit her first from the perimeter to keep the Owls’ lead with six minutes to play. UAB had a three-minute scoring drought, which FAU took advantage of with a 7-0 run as O’Reilly surpassed her career-high with 21 points. UAB compiled a 6-0 run with one minute left in the quarter. FAU ended their slight drought with a shot from downtown by Nika Zyryanova to go up 60-57.
